When Success Feels Scary
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Sometimes people do not mainly fear failure. They fear what will be required if things actually work. Visibility, responsibility, stewardship, accountability, and growth can feel weighty.
Joshua's command to be strong and courageous comes at the threshold of inheritance and responsibility. Success is not only delightful; it can also feel exposing. It asks you to inhabit a larger room, hold more weight, and stop hiding behind preparation. Sometimes a believer subconsciously sabotages answered prayer because becoming who they prayed to be feels vulnerable. Courage is needed not only for battle, but also for increase.
Fear of growth can masquerade as humility when it is really reluctance to carry new responsibility.
An opportunity opens, your labor begins to bear fruit, or recognition arrives—and instead of simple joy, you feel hesitation. Part of you wants the promise. Another part wants the safety of staying small.
God is strengthening you not only to survive hard seasons, but to inhabit answered ones.

Father, make me courageous enough to steward what You are bringing into my life. Deliver me from smallness, sabotage, and fear of becoming. Help me receive increase with humility and strength. In Jesus' name, amen.
I will not shrink from the responsibility of answered prayer.
- What part of success feels threatening to me?
- Where have I been tempted to hide instead of step up?
- What would courage look like in this season of growth?
Do one thing this week that says yes to responsible growth: accept the opportunity, submit the application, take the meeting, or speak when needed.
"This week I learned that courage is needed not only for adversity, but also for increase."
